Is there God?

Theist, agnostic, or atheist, I bet each one of you has contemplated about the existence of god. I am not an atheist, but I’m not religious either. I do believe there is god, but I also think he is an imaginary friend of ours. It is actually our faith that works.

I strongly believe in you get what you give. Why am I writing about god? Because when I sat down to write a post, I thought, what kind of hidden truths can we explore on this blog? The existence of God is among the most pondered questions in the world. You might believe in the Christian god, Allah, or any other god, but the question is- is there any god at all? And if there is, is he/she a single entity?

There are many things in life (maybe coincidences), but they make us think that maybe there is some power that is managing the entire universe. I would quote one incident from my life that makes me think about the existence of a superior power.

I used to commute a lot when I was a lecturer- from home to college and from college to home. If you have ever commuted, you would know that buses and trams are full of people and you have to stand and travel most of the time. I almost always got seat, but I had the habit of standing up and giving my seat to people who deserved it more- like old or handicapped people. Well days passed, and once I had an accident and I broke my knee. The ligaments of my knee got torn and I was unable to walk for a few days.

I took leave from the college and stayed at home. When I was fine, I started going to college, but standing for long hours wasn’t possible. For one complete year, I had pain in my knee, and whenever I commuted, I either got a seat in the bus on my own, or someone got up and gave me a seat (I didn’t have anything on my legs to let them know I was injured). They just got up and offered me a seat, being gentlemen. You might think that ladies are always offered seats so it’s not a big deal, but no… daily commuters do not offer seats to women. Besides, coincidences occur once in a while- not for one whole year. In one year, I got ok and was able to stand and walk properly. Till then, I never had to travel standing.

I know it would be a series of coincidences to an atheist, but for me, it’s a proof that you get what you give.
What do you guys think? Is there any god/gods?

I used to go to a CofE primary school, and in those days (late sixties early seveties) we used to have a vicar come in on a thursday and take assembly. Being young and inquisitive (now im just a busybody), I asked the vicar, what i thought was a legitimate question, "Where did God come from?". To which he began by saying "He's always been there", which i thought about for a week and even at that early age i wasnt satisfied by that answer. After all everything has to have a beginning doesn't it? So the following week i asked the question again and this time would not take the "always been there" cop out. Again i got an answer that i thought was weak, "well the earth came from nothing didnt it?" My reply was that i could see and feel the earth so i knew it was real...yep ended up with 50 lines "I must not be cheeky to the Vicar." But ever since then I became an Atheist where god was concerned....Well thats not strictly true...If you are asking me about a supreme diety that created everything and governs our destiny, then no I absolutely do not believe in him. However I do believe that through the ages, Humanity has been visited by many beings that have interfered in our lives in one way or another. If you look at early civilisations "gods" (romans, greeks and norse to name a few) you can nearly always find corresponding gods (God of war= Mars-Ares-Odin; Unlike the others Odin was actually the leader of the Norse gods too, but if they are one and the same alien race perhaps he took over leadership for some reason? The vikings were the latter civilisation and he may have become leader. OK i know the romans lasted longer but they did convert to christianity...which could be why Jupiter/Zeus was ousted as leader and in Norse mythology their correspondant would be Thor). There was a book in the Seventies called "UFO's and the bible" which is a fascinating read if you can find a copy now, which convinced me that the Old Testament is simply a book of misunderstood UFO activity, and the New Testament are simply stories of the phenomena that surrounds the first Alien/Human hybrid. *This is only my belief and opinion and I acknowledge the rights of any person to believe in whatever/whoever they wish*

Well there IS someone who is controlling everything. If you say those are aliens, then maybe they're aliens... Kinda like the show "South Park: Canceled" I don't believe in religion, but there is something that's controlling everything. Maybe aliens are monitoring everything happening on earth, and they are there to judge.... idk... its very confusing. All I know is that something is there to check on us.

I had this discussion with some guys a while back, the general gist of which was" are we a natural evolution or are we an alien experiment?". If we were an experiment of sorts, it would make sense that we would be monitored and maybe guided on our way a little. So maybe our belief in Gods is some kind of race memory. So while I do not believe in a great omnipotent being, I do believe that there is/was something guiding mankind.

Well those are your own feelings.... Idk... sometimes I think there might not be god, but then some incidents make me believe. And I dont believe in what's written in Bible or Quran or whatever. Its just from my own experiences

Thats just it though, its down to what you have experienced. I have seen and heard some strange things in my life, and like most of us that hit these sites its things I have seen or experienced that perk my interest in the wierd and wonderful. For my part I have never experienced anything that would make me believe in a God in the Religious sense. However tha doesnt mean that in ten years time (assuming im still here) i won't witness something that makes me change my mind, but for now i remain blissfully heathen (according to my mum).

I brought this up last night in the pub and we hadnt been talking long before we noticed the old chap on the table next to us was listening to what we were saying. One of the blokes, i was with, asked the old guy what he believed, and I think what he said summed it all up in a nutshell. He said "There is if you want there to be."

I have had many experiences of the metaphysical over the years. The only real question for me is do I sense things before they happen or do they happen because I think about them happening. As a result have grown to believe that what we are is a holographic record of a planet long dead. I think that most religious texts were instances of people noticing how a single thought can manifest into reality. That as real as it might all seem it some how isn't. That we were created in the image of mankind but are somehow not. I like to sometimes say that mankind created Java and either a long long time from now, or a long long time ago Yahweh (JavaScript) re created man.
