- What does the future hold for mankind?

The rapid growth of technology and alternative energy sources over the last century has been phenomenal. And the development of technology continues to reinvent itself and offer us experiences we could never believe possible. With Siri, Apple has recently invented a voice controlled artificial intelligence that responds to natural voice commands and has a personality. Ask it “Who you´re Daddy,” and it replies, “You are.”The advancements in technology bode well for the future in terms of broadening our capabilities for business and virtual communication, though should also carry a warning sign that it could affect our abilities to communicate in social circles. More and more children these days have access to mobile phones with games, games consoles and interactive gaming centers. Text speech is nonsense and most comments left on social forums are unintelligent and often insulting other people.
So what does technology hold for the future of our planet?
One futurist commentator is the American scientist and inventor, Ray Kurzwell. With Honorary Doctorates in Engineering and Science, and the winner of the 1999 National Medal of Technology he is considered one of the most important futurists of our generation. Forbes magazine described him as “The Ultimate Thinking Machine” and the “Rightful heir to Thomas Edison.” He has put forth his views of the future in many books, the most recent being The Singularity Is Near.
In this fascinating book, Kurzwell talks about a time when man and machine will merge into one symbiotic creature. A future where computers are trillions of times more powerful than today, where there is no distinction between virtual reality and real life, and where all human memories can be downloaded. Future generations will electronically evolve into man-machined amalgamations. He states this will happen in the next 40 years.
Technology is one of exponential growth, a mighty monolith shining in our world of forward thinking. The idea of the bigger, better, accelerated world we thrive on today. If modern day historian are to be believed advanced civilisations have only been in existence for the last four to five thousand years, but in the past century electronic evolution has advanced dramatically with the advent of electricity, planes, cars, computers and cell phones. What about the internet? Invented by the CIA in the 1950´s, she´s only been available to the general public for the last 20 or so years, but has already mothered us into one society, narrowing the horizon´s of the world and us closer – for sharing information at least, if not for the brotherhood of man.
Furthermore, technology is getting small through bigger ideas. Nanorobotics is a perfect example. The Nano Bot is a device of a microscopic scale (0.1-10 micrometers across). These intrepid explorers would travel through our bodies, in their hundreds of thousands, seeking out flu viruses and cancerous cells, among others. We would go about our lives with these living detectives scanning our insides for any illness and emailing our doctors if any abnormalities were found. Diseases could be detected before they plague us. These micro-robots may be a very real part of our lives in the not too distant future and in doing so would be a giant leap in medical technology.
Let´s not forget that man and machine have already become rather intimate. In today´s world we rely so much on our laptops, computers, cellphones, and multimedia devices such as iPods, iPads and iPhones. They´re all extensions of ourselves and with the development of new technology like Siri mentioned above, our devices can now communicate with us on an emotional level. Like an umbilical cord electrically connecting us to the world as we know it, technology is a liaison with a partner we know very little about, but one in which we are more than willing to embrace regardless. But could this need and desire lead people to their downfalls?
The television is a prime example of brainwashing. It´s a tool designed to distract viewers from learning more about the world and ultimately themselves. Most people go to work and talk about what they watched on TV the night before. Then they go home and watch more TV so they have something to talk about at work the next day. It´s perpetual mind pollution. Television is the greatest form of mind control because the media and TV stations can tell people anything they want to believe and because avid TV watchers only understand the world through a television, they will never know any better. In other words you are trapped in a communist state in your own home.
Advocates of the New Age Movement talk about a time when the Earth is evolving into the next cycle where we can expect to experience a shift of Consciousness. The Mayan Long Count Calendar is believed to have predicted this shift will complete on 21st December 2012, following which, for those you are ready to embrace the shift, man will ascend into a new age of love and understanding. But the key factor here is, it will only occur for those who are ready. If you are polluting your mind through the constant use of technological equipment that is not of educational value, your consciousness will be so dormant you will sleep through the whole process and miss the boat to a higher dimension.
