The Famous Case of Lubbock Lights

Posted: Nov 30, 2011 by Emily

"Lubbock Lights" that appeared in 1951 in Texas are well documented in history. In that year, one fine day in the month of August, three college professors of technology, namely, Dr A. G. Oberg, W. L. Ducker and Dr W. I. Robinson were chit chatting in Professor Robinson's backyard. All of a sudden, all three witnessed unusual lights flying across the dark, clear Texas sky.

The group of lights looked as if they were made of shining beads and they appeared to be of boomerang shape. More such group of lights appeared later in that same year and out of those, Ducker became witness to twelve such lights between the months of August and November. Air Force personnel were immediately contacted by the three professors after they first saw the lights. They were told by officials that there was no air traffic that night.

News about these lights spread like fire amongst general public. Soon after initial sightings of these strange lights, there was news broadcast about three lights flying over Lubbock that seemed to be systematically planned and scheduled. An eighteen year old teenager, Carl Hart Jr., was able to take pictures of these mysterious lights. Texas education officials observed those photographs and could not come up with a reasonable explanation.

The number of lights when counted in photographs turned out to be in between 18 to 20.The brightness of these extraordinary objects appeared to be more than planet Venus. At times, these boomerang-shaped lights appeared in groups. In one of the clicked photographs, a large light, possibly mother space ship, seemed to fly separately from the group.

The U.S. Air Force, as expected, soon took matters in its own hands. In the month of September of the same year, they carried out detailed inspection of Carl Hart’s photographs. Air Force did not discredit his pictures nor did it authenticate them. Captain Edward J. Ruppelt was appointed as Project Blue Book’s first director and sent to Lubbock to study the mystery behind the lights.
In order to avoid speculations about UFO related activities, many earthly clarifications were given by authorities. One such explanation claimed that those mysterious objects were nothing but plover birds. Other explanations said that those lights might have been flock of ducks, comet fragments or shooting stars. Plover bird explanation was fast dismissed by game wardens who said that these birds never fly in groups of more than three.

The incident of Lubbock Lights still forms the topic of discussion, with different ideas and explanations about what was witnessed and photographed in the year 1951 in Texas. The pictures that Carl Hart Jr. took were never debunked, but the question still remains. What really were those mysterious lights that flew across Lubbock, Texas in that year?

ainteresting. just read a little on this and theres some interesting facts in that the professors claim the lights they saw were in a different formation, u shaped, to the pictures that carl hart took, which were a v shape. also the air force tried to pass it off as a flying wing bomber that was flying training missions in the area at the time, however they could not provide details of nightime missions, only providing evidence of daytime flights miles away from the sightings or an explaination as to how jet bomber could fly so low without making any noise.
