The Famous Kecksburg UFO Incident

Posted: Dec 27, 2011 by Emily

So I read about yet another classic UFO case and found it worth sharing with you all. It is about UFO happenings in Kecksburg in the year 1965. This incident has even been called as the Eastern Roswell by some people. Read on to find out what happened on one cold night in Kecksburg.

On the night of 9th December, a giant fireball streaking across the sky was reportedly seen by a number of people in southern Canada and north-eastern U.S. It later plunged towards east in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania. It was said to be just a meteor. The eye-witnesses disagreed strongly to this though. They claimed that the fireball changed directions many times, maneuvered violently, and twisted.

After it crashed into the woods in Kecksburg, word quickly spread. News was broadcasted on all radio stations which resulted in people rushing to the woods, trying to have a look. Police and armed forces too arrived at the scene quickly and dispersed the crowd.

Witnesses, who got the chance to have a close look, described that flaming object as a large bell or acorn-shaped metal which seemed to be about 7 feet by 14 feet, partially buried in a crater. It had strange writings on its surface which resembled Egyptian hieroglyphs. The object appeared to have no apertures but a slight indentation. People gathered there were warned not to talk about it. There are claims that the strange object was later carried away on a truck by authorities hurriedly.

Consequently, officials tried stonewalling on the happening and stated a day later that it was just a meteor which crashed that night. But the witness statements of a smooth metallic object with strange symbols appeared to discount that. The government was anxious and tried covering up the incident. Only three explanations go with all the identified facts. The object that crashed was either Soviet technology, American technology or alien technology.

The ones rejecting UFO activity made a case and connected the 9th December incident with crashing of Soviet satellite named Kosmos 96. The satellite had crashed in Canada some 12 hours ago before the Kecksburg incident took place. It was claimed that what was found in Canada half a day ago was just a disposable piece of that satellite, and the major part of it crashed in Kecksburg some hours later.

Now one might wonder that why the government had to cover up and say it was a mere meteor?

Argument given for this is that the US government wanted to study Soviet technology and since they would have been compelled, because of international pressure, to return the object back to its owner country, they declared that it was only a meteor. However, the maneuvering witnessed by people, raises questions against this argument and the object remains a mystery.

Decades have passed but this incident still attracts UFO aficionados’ interest. Interestingly, a few years back, NASA admitted, after years of denying, that they did examine an object found in Kecksburg woods.

Now, new witnesses have come up with their versions of what happened that night.  Some say they heard a scream from that object, which seemed unearthly. Others claimed they saw a hand come out of that object. May be these people are just some hoaxers or fantasists under delusion or may be genuine witnesses who were scared to say anything before the incident became high profile.

This happening still is an enigma and a matter of intrigued speculation. However, declaration by NASA proved that something did happen that night.
