Aline Contact is All in the Mind

Research into the alien abduction phenomenon has revealed that “close encounters with UFOs and extraterrestrials are a product of the human mind." The none-too-surprising discovery came following a sleep study conducted by the Out-Of-Body Experience Research Center in Los Angeles.

The study involved 20 volunteers who were instructed to perform a series of mental steps upon waking up, particularly if they were in a theta state and were experiencing a lucid dream. The instructions were designed to control the lucid dream in such a way it might lead them to have an out-of-body experience which culminated with an alien encounter.

The experiment was designed to test the theory that many reports of alien abductions occur when people are experiencing a vibrant, lifelike state of dreaming. Of the volunteers involved in the experiment, more than half the volunteers experienced at least one full or partial out-of-body experience, and seven of them made contact with UFOs or extraterrestrials during these dream-like experiences. According to researchers the experiment proved that alien encounter are really just a product of our imaginations.

"When people experience alien abductions in the night, they usually don't know they are actually in REM sleep and having an out-of-body experience," lead researcher Michael Raduga explained. "It's very realistic and people cannot understand how it happens. [Our study] shows that it's not about aliens, it's about human abilities, and it can happen to almost anyone."

The study volunteers were asked to attempt separating themselves from their bodies every time they sensed they were having a lucid dream during the night. Some were able to do this at the first attempt whilst it took other three to five attempts. Others were unable to attain an out-of-body experience because “they became too afraid to look for aliens.” By the end of the study, 35 percent of the volunteers said they had made visual contact with aliens.

The research team plan to conduct further tests using similar criteria to further the studies in the capacity of the human imagination and how this can link to a belief people have had contact with an alien nation.

I would like to hope this is right, as i'm a little sceptical to say the least (confession: done a bit of rooting around for information since emily's earlier post and while not convinced, am thinking this is going the way of crop circles, where we know a lot isnt genuine but there are a few that defy explaination)

The sleep study is one of those shady scientific experiments that only provides a possible explaination rather than definative proof.

It doesnt explain multiple abduction experiences (betty and barney hill among others)

And it doesnt explain those reports where there is physical evidence left behind.
