The idea of ancient aliens is not a new concept that is only recently sweeping across our TV channels, but has been around for around 30 years. On 13th December 1973, Claude Vorhilon, who now goes by the name Rael, claims to have had an encounter with a being from another planet. During the visitation, the details of the origins of man were revealed to Raël which inspired his book, Intelligent Design. But not only that, it spawned a new religion: Raëlism.

Dubbed as the UFO religion, Raëlism has 70,000 members in 97 countries. The founder and leader of the cult Raël claims is purpose in life is to inform humanity of the creators, the Elohim, in order to prepare the population for their return. In September 1974, the first public conference of his mission attracted an audience of some 2000 people. But by the end year Raëlism had a membership count of just 170 people. The idea didn´t take off like the proverbial UFO then!

Since the turn of the millennium however, Raëlism seems to have accelerated much more quickly. The main reason for that is the invitation to appear as a guest on various news programs, such as CNN and BBC together with other, ahem, trusted platforms for promotion. From there, Raël was able to tell us the story how he got a subliminal message to go to a volcano in France where he was visited by extra-terrestrials who emerged from a flying saucer.

In a striking likeness to the ideas of ancient alien theorists, Raëlism claims that all life on Earth was created scientifically by Elohim, who are depicted as angels, demons, cherubim and Gods. The word Elohim is actually unique to Hebrew and simply means God, the Raëlist claim it literally means, “those who came from the skies,” just as the Anunnaki is described as meaning, “those from which the heavens came.”

The Elohim are said to be the first advanced group of human beings in the Universe and came to Earth to establish life on another planet. When they discovered primitive man on Earth they genetically modified them with alien DNA and created the intelligent life forms we are today. Though no specific dates are given by Raël when this happened, I suppose we are to assume it was around 5,500 BCE, when it is said the Anunnaki visited and the first signs of advanced civilisation appeared on Earth – according to mainstream historians.

It´s interesting to note how many people believe the idea of the human race being genetically modified by aliens, yet don´t believe Atlantis existed – but then how many billions of humans have fallen for the God made the Earth in seven days yarn over the centuries. But the answer is simple. Atlantis is labelled a myth, therefore not real, whereas the alien link is seriously being considered and researched by educated scholars.

In the last ten years, evidence of cities has been found underwater that indicates an advanced civilisation such as Atlantis might have existed. Some researchers also believe Atlantis was situated in the Atlantic Ocean and when it was consumed by almighty floods, the surviving inhabitants escaped to Egypt and South America, which explains why the technology is very similar despite the two civilisations apparently having never met. If the idea takes off in the next ten years, people will have another theory to consider which will undoubtedly split the divide just as the Creationism v Evolution argument has done since Darwin proposed his theory in the late 19th Century.

Whichever way you look at the new theories being proposed in today´s world, there are early signs that existing religions around the world, particularly Christianity, is dying out. People are losing faith in the Catholic Church and realise the threat it poses to the stability of the Planet. Islam and the stories in the Qur’an are not far removed from those in the Bible and it´s only a matter of time before people from Middle-Eastern countries begin to turn their attentions to other belief systems as well – especially if American corporate colonialism has its wicked way.

But just with Christianity, Islam and evolution, is Raëlism, Scientology and other ancient alien theories really just a means of distracting us from the real truth. Ancient texts, particularly scholars and philosophers of ancient Greece, talk about the truth being inside each and every one of us. The path to the divine comes from within and life is an ever evolving concept. Knowing this gives you the divine power of enlightenment the Buddha teaches. Armed with divine power, we cannot be controlled by the establishment. And that´s why crackpots like Raël get on the telly. If you want to be famous and get lots of sex, invent a cult and claim to have been visited by aliens who created us!!
