Until a couple of months ago, I was the assistant parts manager for my local Pontiac-GMC dealership. Then, they sold the franchise and closed. I've been collecting unemployment while looking for a new job, which I landed at the end of last week.
In a couple weeks, I'll be working for a body shop in town, where the whole of my duties will be obtaining parts for wrecked vehicles that come into our shop.
My old job wasn't fun, but I got along great with the people, and made a lot of close friends from it. My new job is probably not going to be much fun either, but I'll make the best of it. It's the auto industry; when everyone's making money, the job is pleasant. When nobody's making money, it becomes barely tolerable.
I also have a couple of "adult oriented" websites that I maintain, and make a little extra cash on the side from. Now that...that's kind of fun, just not as much fun as many people would expect. A lot of it is very tedious, and there's nowhere near the money that a lot of people assume you'd make. Still, every little bit counts, and I can write off my computer, my internet, and my phone on my taxes. I can also play around online while doing it. It's a slow process, but I've seen a steady increase in my income from it, and it's something that POTENTIALLY could become my full time job in a year or so. It's kind of a recession-proof industry. (And it's worldwide.)
