Do you remember this movie? Do you think that the end of the world will happen how it somewhat did during the movie? I think that it will be something similar but I don't think it will be anytime soon.

I don't think that it will become a super-winter like in the show. At the moment, global warming is the trend so I doubt temperatures going the other way. The speed of the cold setting in was a little far-fetched too.

I think the only way the world can come to an end is because of human themselves launching WMD on each other and the result is devastating.

I loved that movie and I honestly think something like that can happen. I doubt it would hit New York straight off like that but hey, it made a good movie!
I think something like this could happen but, I also think it would be caused by the hand of man - either killing the planet until the planet hits back or by launching the WMD like the above poster mentioned. |

It happened before with the dinosaurs, It will probably happen again. Human beings will be wiped out and only be left as fossils in the future. Earth will again recover and new kinds of lifeforms will emerge.

True, I still think that it could happen somewhat like the movie, but hopefully none of us will ever have to find out in our lifetimes.

According to the Snow and Ice Data Center, "While aspects of the movie have a distant basis in fact and real theories of climate change, the film greatly compresses and exaggerates events. Scenarios that take place over a few days or weeks in the movie would actually require centuries to occur."

I agree that the instantaneous change in the movie was waaaay exaggerated, but I disagree that it takes centuries for that type of change to be made. Apparently there is evidence that it only took a year for the last ice age to take hold. Click here for more info.
