Default Fortune-teller or Story-teller?

We've all heard of fortune-tellers being arrested for fraud or grand larceny. Isn't that ironic? If they can tell the future, shouldn't they have been able to avoid jail? There's a great skepticism about the whole profession, if you can call it that. Nevertheless, there's plenty who still get duped into believing their predictions. Are they just really good storytellers? Or are a few scammers damaging the reputation of some truly talented people?

Yes this always has been my thought why these people don't benefit themselves. They are very good narrators and orators. There are no such talented people in this profession they are just flukes and frauds.

There are far too many gullible people in this country. The reason why there are so many fortune-teller a/k/a scam artists around is because of this group of persons with too much cash and time on their hands. I say they deserve to be scammed for not having enough common sense.

"Or are a few scammers damaging the reputation of some truly talented people?" -- This got me thinking. Are there truly clairvoyant people out there? My gut tells me there are and they are probably as disgusted as we are that there are people out to scam others.

I think that there are truly talented people...but there are very few...I think that for the most part fortune tellers are great story tellers. They should write their own books and make money that way...not steal it from gullible innocent people.

There are three kinds of fortune tellers. There are those who scam for money, there are those who entertain, you'll find them in the circus and there are the ones for real.

I'd like to meet Allison Dubois one day. She's a real psychic; in fact, a tv series (Medium) is based on her. She helps law enforcement agencies solve crimes. Amazing isn't it? These agencies have since denied her assistance. Understandable since definitely, they don't want to appear incompetent. There is some dispute on her abilities. She claims to have the ability to communicate with the dead. I don't envy her though.

My sister is refusing to marry her fiance of 2 years because a fortune-teller told her that if she marries before she's 30, she'd soon be a widow. It's trivial to me but her boyfriend is starting to get cranky about it. It isn't just that. She bases her life's decisions on this fortune-teller's predictions -- if she should switch jobs, what her friends think about her, the gender of her first child, etc.

Now that is a bit ridiculous.
