Please find below, links to two articles that are very funny on cracked.com
Not only are they funny though, but have fueled me doing a bit of further research. Especially on 'Bloop'. Enjoy. 6 Insane Discoveries That Science Can't Explain 6 Famous Unsolved Mysteries (With Really Obvious Solutions)

Thank you for sharing these stories. I have heard of most of them, and am with you on the bloop.

I know....
Joking aside, The Bloop appears to be something worth looking at. The rest of it, just made me laugh, but The Bloop...... a different kettle of [loud] fish. Very strange. This is a very amateurish website, but the recordings of 'The Bloop' are on there. http://www.bloopwatch.org/thebloop.html There is speculation that the noises are from a giant squid, and rebuttal that a giant squid does not have the biological paraphenalia to generate such a noise. No! The recordings have been only heard in 1997 (apparently).... The array used to record the original sounds are owned by 'the establishment'.... So, I will be the first to say that I'm under no illusion that after the first flurry of information, that 'they' would mute any reports in the future. However; I think this is one of two things: A prank (some stoned students dangled a fucking LOUD speaker over the side of their boat).... OR A scenario echoing back to the film 'The Abyss'....... Personally, I pray for the latter. BUT.... considering the array that recorded the sounds in the first place... the "Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array", is it not feasible that some disenchanted former staff member/developer thought that they would fuck with his/her former colleagues? But, this..... unlike a lot of mysteries, is certainly one worth looking at. I will be honest with you all though, until about 3pm today, I had never heard of 'The Bloop'....

Thank's Tecnos, it has been awhile since I have had such a good laugh!
But the "Bloop"...puzzeling indeed, the fact that it was heard on multiple moniters with a range over 5000 Km, puzzeling to say the least.

The bloop could also be from a huge prehistoric creature that dwells in the very deep parts of the ocean. I don't know if I would want to meet the maker of the noise face to face.

I wonder if there have been any experiments playing the noise back in roughly the same location and at the same volume?
Or would that be like saying "come and have a go if you think you are tough enough" to the biggest bloke in the bar?

They could play the sound where they recorded it and use sonar to see if they can find the creature responsible (if that is the case).
If it is a huge creature, and that is a mating call, the ship could be in for a rockin'! |
