Default Karma - cause and effect

Do you have a personal experience of an action -- good or bad -- done to your fellowmen that eventually caught up with you? Does your belief in karma lead you to refrain from getting revenge? This notion is widespread in many religions. I'm wondering how you apply it to your lives.

In my life experiences, it definitely seems like karma exists.

I believe that karma has a way of catching up with you. I sow what I reap. I hope I've done a lot of good in my life and that I have many wonderful occasions to look forward to. I don't wish bad karma on those who have wronged me. It's not at the back of my mind when I forgive them.

You know what, the concept of karma bothers me because it negates the power of forgiveness. I'm taught that I am to forgive unconditionally. The thought that karma will catch up with the person who wronged me is unacceptable. In addition, I can't imbibe the thought that I should do good because I'm expecting something good in return.

interesting concept, but karma only happens occasionally, what if it is just there once in a while to teach a lesson, and then forgives. Kind of like your parents punishing you so you will learn.

I'm on the fence regarding this topic. The issue of karma often doesn't come up when somebody offends me. Probably because I'm a control freak. I won't leave it to chance. I either confront the person and get it over with or I change my attitude regarding him and in a sense, forgiving the misdeed. In a way, leaving matters to karma is cowardice.

I can't quite think of karma the same way after Sharon Stone was quoted mentioning it. She said that the China Sichuan earthquake was a result of karma for China's treatment of Tibetans. Oh I know that that's not how karma works. She's ignorant and stupid. Humans bring their own destinies upon themselves. Government decisions aren't part of the equation.

I think a lot of coincidences are being attributed to karma but sometimes some things happen quite often that it's easier saying it's karma than trying to explain it.

Karma may be the eastern religions' counterpart to The Golden Rule (Do not do unto others...blah blah), I think. There are exceptions to the rule of course. For me, I live by it. It has served me well in making sure that I live harmoniously with the people around me. It keeps my bratty-ness controlled. It's nice to send myself a reminder once in a while to empathize with others and to be the bigger person.

I don't believe in karma...with good reason. I have committed a lot of bad things in the 30 or so years that I've been on this earth. I've stolen, cheated, lied, fought, and abused. A year ago, I stopped all these and turned to Jesus. I've turned my back on all that. I've been forgiven.
