Default Can hypnosis help me stop smoking and lose weight?

How effective are hypnotherapy sessions? I've been a smoker for 10 years and been overweight for 15. I have tried quitting cold turkey, chewing gum, patches, etc. Name it, I've probably tried it. Going through withdrawal was hell. To top it off, each time I quit, I gain more pounds. Hypnosis experts tell me that it's the most effective way to quit smoking and lose weight for good? I don't want my mind to be controlled. I hope there's no possibility that they'd be putting in some things I didn't request for. Will I even know?

I applaud you for wanting to quit however, hypnosis is not the way to do it. There are risks when you allow a person to get into your brain. You never know what memory will be unearthed. There might be something that your mind is keeping from the forefront of your thoughts. Also, what if you do get to quit smoking but that another bad habit takes its place and this time, it's more difficult to handle because with hypnosis, it's like you're admitting that you are not in control.

Can you trust the hypnotist? Who's to make sure that you won't be exploited? He can instruct you to do immoral or illegal acts..without your knowledge. He can even be the most well-meaning person but the mind is highly sensitive. Don't expose it unnecessarily. There are other ways to quit smoking and lose weight. If you ask me, you're chickening out.

Hypnosis stinks like a scam. I get turned off when I hear claims like it's the "most effective" and when they say "it's worth it," it only tells me that it's pricey but that it's still a scam.

Obviously if hypnotism worked for losing weight or quitting smoking, hypnotists would be rich by now. The fact is hypnotism does not work for all things or for all people. Not everyone has the same level of susceptibility to hypnotism and there are limits to what hypnosis is capable of.

I don't think hypnotism really works...I think if anything it tricks people into believing that it works and then you will stop smoking and lose weight...but the cheaper way to do that is believe in yourself, you need to decide to quit and lose weight without outside forces...

You can't be hypnotized against your will. I've heard of hypnotism being used for pain relief and to cure phobias. For that purpose, I'll allow myself to be hypnotized. As with any medication, weigh the pros and cons.

Right, Ricoh, I agree that hypnosis can be extremely useful...just not for losing weight and to quit smoking. There's a certain satisfaction from quitting smoking because it's your own decision and you worked for it. I didn't to spend the rest of my life always taking the easy way. It's a very bad habit to break.

From a pamphlet I got I from my mails, quitting through hypnosis guarantees no withdrawal and no cravings. Great right? I got turned off with the next line. It says that it's a mental fitness training program. Uhh, I will not admit that there's something wrong with me mentally so I vowed to quit right there. Three months and not one cigarette.
