During the second world war a request to the UK public for blood was aired as the government knew that many casualties would be suffered in the liberation of Europe. The 'united spirit' of the people of the UK (which is sadly laking today) was so overwhelming that there was a vast surplus of donated blood and disposal of the 'claret' became an issue. Professor Magnus Pike in the Ministry of Food and Nutrision suggested that if the blood was boiled and added to any meager ration, the nutrisional gain would be beneficial. The cabinet borked at this idea and the blood was eventually used as crop fertiliser. It is said that he commented 'Can't understand it. They would like it raw introveniously and that is ok but cooked and eated tastefully by mouth is unacceptable?....very strange'
Obviously now with the amount of pharmacuticals taken and other factors this would not even be considered by governments today.....or would it? Last edited by Robbie; 12-15-2009 at 02:57 AM. |

I read about consuming blood not to long ago in a military Survival field manual. Sounds pretty nasty either way.

When you think about blood is very nutritional, its what supplies the body with the nutrients that it needs. Sure I wouldn't like the idea of consuming blood, but if my survival depended on it it would make sense.
