Default Scientists discover the secret of ageing

Quote:
One of the biggest puzzles in biology – how and why living cells age – has been solved by an international team based at Newcastle University, in north-east England.
The answer is complex, and will not produce an elixir of eternal life in the foreseeable future.
But the scientists expect better drugs for age-related illnesses, such as diabetes and heart disease, to emerge from their discovery of the biochemical pathway involved in ageing.
The Newcastle team, working with the University of Ulm in Germany, used a comprehensive “systems biology” approach, involving computer modelling and experiments with cell cultures and genetically modified mice, to investigate why cells become senescent. In this aged state, cells stop dividing and the tissues they make up show physical signs of deterioration, from wrinkling skin to a failing heart.
The research, published by the journal Molecular Systems Biology, shows that when an ageing cell detects serious damage to its DNA – caused by the wear and tear of life – it sends out specific internal signals.

Excuse my ignorance, but can you enlighten me about the part how we are designed to die.

If we did live forever or significantly longer, personally I am thinking, "sounds good to me" but we would run out of space and resources pretty damn quick. Would definitely have like baby bans or huge restrictions.

If our bodies were not designed to age and die, we would not age and die. Simple as that. Do you suppose there is no reason for our bodies ageing? It's safe to say that if we have certain genetic properties that enable us to do certain things and live our lives in certain ways, and that we have evolved for certain reasons, then it also makes sense that genetically, we are programmed to age and wither ...for the express purpose of dying. That's if fate doesn't give us a side swipe first.

I suspect eternal youth would have it's drawbacks...for whilst we may be able to prevent the body aging...how about the mind and soul? What if that gets jaded and old and worn out? Lot's more suicides, methinks.

Exactly. And nature nearly always has a way of biting back. We'd no doubt start to see a massive rise in infertility....or some new foul disease would evolve to take us where we've stopped ourselves going. You cannot cheat death. It's there for a reason.

Lemonelemi,

"Many of us fear death. We believe in death because
we have been told we will die. We associate ourselves
with the body, and we know that bodies die. But a new
scientific theory suggests that death is not the terminal
event we think."

Does Death Exist? New Theory Says 'No'

Biocentrism (cosmology)

Interesting. I'm training at the moment in becoming a spiritualist medium, and yes, I do get messages from those on the other side. Last night I gave readings to 7 people. So I know first hand about the energy of a person and the fact that that energy does not die. Our bodies, however, are different encumbrance.

So much energy could make your hair stand on end. Coils. Eccentric. Died impoverished. Need I say more?
