This happened yesterday and has apparently generated quite a bit of buzz.

The president was 'dick swinging'.....
Obama today addressed South Korea. He's been in S.E Asia for the past few days. The missile launch was a bit of sabre rattling on behalf of the Americans (Obama's administration).

You may be right Tecnos, but if that is the case I cannot understand at this point why the U.S. gov would not accept responsibility for the incident. It seems counter productive to me. I would think that if a country was "dick swinging", trying to intimidate other countries with this type of demonstration, than said countries would need to know who the "dick" was attached to...and if it was even a "dick" at all to begin with. Without this knowledge who do you fear and what do you fear?
The U.S. is no stranger to such displays of power by use of demonstration (missile fired at satellite). However, in such demos the U.S. signature is all over it. So if it wasn't the U.S. government, than who was it? Below is an article with an interesting take on the situation... >>Was it China?<< *please read comments in second link for more opinions* |

I watched a news report (posted on Liveleak) which stated it was China "sabre-rattling", while Obama was in their "yard".

I think it's called "plausible deniability"... and in my country (where we say colour, honour and bollocks), foreign policy.

You are correct when you say that if it was China it would be an act of war. However, your follow up statement leads me to believe that you feel this is inconceivable. Have we finally reached the times where war is a foreign term to us? Looking around and seeing the state of world affairs proves otherwise. I am not completely convinced that it was China. However, I am also not completely convinced that it wasn't. So at this point I cannot rule them out |

That the US AND China are proposing strategies TOGETHER against North Korea. So wilst you're not ruling China out, those of us with half a wit already have done.
