I think it is about time that a candidate for elected office stood up for the separation of church and state by saying that they will not address any relgious topics during their campaigns.
It is too late now, of course, but looking toward the next elections, do you think people should start letting the parties know that there must be a change in order to preserve our basic freedoms? |

I would agree this would be a good way to handle elections, especially considering that America was founded as a place for all people to seek religious refuge.

I don't think religious topics should be addressed by any politician but that's just my opinion. Basically, most of the country does want to hear what politicians believe when it come to religious issues like prayer in school and abortion. Millions of people want to hear religious beliefs, especially their religious beliefs, echoed by politicians and politicians are going after those votes.

In no way, shape or form should politics and religion even be in the sentence. I just want an honest president, but not sure if there are any honest politians out there.

I am not sure if there are either... The closest thing I have seen so far is Ron Paul - its just too bad he was shut down by the MSM.

Seperation of Church and State has absolutely nothign to do with what a politician talks about or stands for. The seperation of Church and State only has to do with the prevention of forming a national religion such as was the case with England with the Church of England. Why should politicians be able to speak about how they feel about some issues but not others?

I believe that separation of church has absolutely nothing to do with politics.A politician, in my opinion, should not intersect politics with religion.

And that's the saddest part of it all right there. We're supposed to be this open-minded melting pot and yet only those of a particular faith can lead? Personally, I don't care how much a person prays or if they're in church every weekend or not; I want a decent human being with intelligence and leadership. End of story.

The worst part about that statement, is that it is completely true.
