Default Look What We Found

Quote:
After years of searching, astronomers may finally have recorded the first image of a planet orbiting a sunlike star beyond the solar system. The body, about eight times Jupiter?s mass, lies exceptionally far from its presumed parent star ? roughly 11 times Neptune?s average distance from the sun.

They have found that planets are quite common around all stars. The thinking now is that red dwarfs are a great place for Earth like planets, as they last very long. The planets would be much closer to the star than we are for the warmth of the star, and that would make them to difficult to detect with today's equipment.

Who is going to be the first to see if we can live on them?

They can use instruments to detect what kind of atmosphere the planets have. The finding of all these planets of different types shows planets themselves are not unusual. There were some theories that claimed planets around stars were extremely rare.
