Is a nuclear war in the offing? With every other country looking to prove its strength in terms of nuclear warheads, I think we should pause and think...

I don't really think that we are heading for one, not yet. Things just aren't horrible enough for that sort of thing to start.

No, I don't think we are headed for one. There is no true arms war going on at the moment and I think people are more worried about the economy now than about fighting wars with nukes so we are pretty alright for the time being.

Never we will venture to wage a war with nuclear warheads because most of the countries have nuclear weapons, though it may be clandestine development. We know how horrible a nuclear war would be after the Hiroshima disaster and once started, it has its own chain reactions and the ensuing repercussions would destroy the planet earth.

The related fear-psychosis has its way of gaining ground in one way or the other- first it was the cold war, and now, among others, looms the possibility of a bilateral dispute snowballing into an armed conflict complete with alliances. But, in keeping with how Dairyman put it, we essentially are wise enough to know how horrible it all would be.

As said in one of the above comments most of the countries are too occupied with their economic growth and over all development and no one is interested in ruining the ongoing fine setup. So we should push this fear of war far away.

I'm still trying to keep faith in humans to do the right thing but if they were crazy enough to build those things they may be crazy enough to use them.

Personally, I try to go through each day thinkning positive and believer that the majority of human kind is good. However, as we all know, this is not so.
What worries me the most is Iran. As it sits right now, Iran is continuing to process and enrich Uranium. Meanwhile, Iran is ignoring the request of the international community to talk and regulate production through U.N. monitoring. Crazy leaders with nukes scare the hell out of me; including our own leaders. A second issue that came to light just the other day was in regard to Russia wanting to re-establish their nuclear missle placement in Cuba. As is sits right now Russia has nuclear subs in the Cuban region. This of course is a result of the U.S. placing Nuclear silo's in Poland. |

It is indeed a slippery slope, but I think (or hope) that all leaders know it would be a certain end to the world if a nuclear war starts... Maybe that isn't enough for some of the more "crazy" leaders...
