I agree that hoaxes themselves can be interesting. I also think it is amusing how many people believe in the hoaxes themselves. On an episode of "UFO Files" on the History Channel last night, a researcher was discussing witnesses to the Aztek New Mexico crash, which has been proven a hoax a long time ago. The story was completely made up and printed in a book in the 1950s. The shady characters involved have since been exposed, but the story finds life in the internet and other sources. Some of the great hoaxes will never die.
