Default FEMA: DON'T Eat the peanut butter in first aid kits

FEMA has told the ice storm victims in Kentucky and Arkansas, if you survive the ice, you might not survive our first aid kits.

Apparently, the peanut butter in the first aid kits could be infected with salmonella from a recent outbreak from the negligence of a Georgia Peanut company.

Quote:
(CNN) -- Food kits recently distributed as part of a disaster relief effort in Kentucky and Arkansas may contain peanut butter contaminated with salmonella linked to a nationwide outbreak, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Wednesday.

"Commercial meals kits manufactured by Red Cloud Food Services Inc., under the Standing Rock label, have been provided to disaster survivors in impacted communities, and these kits may contain peanut butter which is part of the precautionary national recall underway in accordance with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration," FEMA said in a written statement.
Though the kits do not all contain the same main course, they do contain packets of peanut butter, the agency said.
"People who have received commercial meal kits are asked to inspect the kits in their possession and immediately dispose of any peanut butter packets," it said.
Jay Blanton, spokesman for Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, said late Wednesday: "We just received this information from FEMA. Tonight, out of an abundance of caution, we are in the process of finding alternative sources of food for people in shelters. The Kentucky National Guard is starting to notify people who've already received the (meal kits) or might be getting one."
Blanton estimated that 6,000 to 7,000 people remained in shelters, primarily in western Kentucky.

I couldn't find a video yet about the FEMA part of the story yet, it is too new, but here is one about the outbreak thus far:

More like irresponsible management of medical supplies (or just a basic survival kit in thise case). If a hospital's food gave somebody salmonella because of rotten meat, lawsuits would be going on left and right. If anyone's to blame for the deaths due to contaminated peanut butter, it should be FEMA.

Well giving out peanut butter during a peanut salmonella case is a terrible idea, but i would also put a heavy blame on the georgia company blamed for this outbreak. i heard today on CNN that they knew about the chance of a batch containing salmonella and released them anyway

Correct me if I am wrong, but itsnt that basically domestic terrorism. Releasing a contaminated food source knowingly into the American public. And yes i know terrorism is a bit extreme but

Not terrorism, per se (given the prior administration's useage of the word), but it is criminally negilgent at the least. A good lawyer may be able to prove that it was deliberate, therefore it could be murder.

you would like to think they knew it was contaminated but didnt know it would kill, but really it was more like wishful thinking... or willful ignorance

I do love peanut butter and banana fried! I will also have to look for vegemite and try it someday.

Peanut butter is a great source of protein and has the good kind of fats in it.
