Rush technically has a point. He is the De facto Republican leader, so he could be debated with. I don't see why the man who only runs the damn country would cut a day from his schedule to make Rush Limbaugh happy. Just being there alone will force Obama to kick start his pot smoking again.

So now the Republicans have a bloated hate-monger as their leader? Unless there is a Presidential election, I have never heard of a sitting President debating a non candidate.
If the media is so left wing, how come all the commentators are right wingers? Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Dobbs, Fox News, AM Radio etc... |

Hah! Rush is nothing more than show...but if Obama did get on there it'd be nothing more than a replica of this arrogant and STUPID shouting match...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DVKfOQRCSc (Exterminate White People) ...by no means do I endorse ANY of this...Rush, Obama or Hannity and the arrogant Black Panthers... |

Eh, I'm of the opinion that one must find the most articulate and forthcoming persons for the subject. In my opinion, this interview was very poor. The context of the clip raises a lot of questions, such as - as the fellow did keenly ask - "why would he say that?" or "what does he say in the full excerpt?". On the other hand, the fellow being interviewed should have answered the question and then followed it up with any clarifying remarks, in my opinion. Malcolm X was the most articulate and outspoken proponent of the so-called black rage and engaged White Supremacy in such a way that it, controversially, helped stoke a conversation that really needed to happen. The Black Panthers have historically been a Black Nationalist group and I'm not surprised the person that was referred to in the clip is raising that call. The history of white people is really a macrocosm of the racial and ethnic problems we, as a global society, encounter every day.
Here's a more objective look at the Black Panthers. They have a legitimate claim, to an extent. I personally agree with Dr. Cornel West's view on the issue of race. Last edited by Mingus; 03-06-2009 at 10:14 AM. |

I agree Mingus. The guy sounded like a fool not answering his questions. I haven't heard Dr. West's views. What does he say?

Dr. West goes beyond White Supremacy and has examined the socio-economic plight, the mysoginistic hierarchy in black America, as well as the spiritual nihilism resulting from the hopelessness of progress in urban areas (where a vast majority live). He has criticized black leaders for not stepping up to the plate at least as much as or, preferably, better than MLK or Malcolm X; whom he criticized for their own downfalls (homophobia for both; and in Malcolm's case, the various positions he held regarding women). He particularly highlights Socratic questioning as a means to raise the necessary questions, instead of ones like "Is he black enough?". Like I've pointed out about the context of the clip above, he's criticized the media for the way it portrayed Jeremiah Wright, not knowing nor showing he full context of what he's talking about. I watched many videos of Rev. Wright's sermons. He injects a religious criticism into his conversation about the truths of black America; but one wouldn't know that by only watching the coverage of that story.

Dr West is a frequent guest on The Colbert Report, and is one of the more intelligent guests. He has a lot of insight on not only race relations, but humanity itself.

He has quite a sense of humor and says some of the more intelligent things out there. I guess the other news outlets just want soundbites instead of any real conversation. It is ironic the best outlets are comedy (fake) news shows.
