Sea Serpents, Ghost Ships, superstitions and strange lights...
Tales of terror at the high seas stretching back as far into history as we care to look. Is the sea really home to an abundance of mysterious happenings? Or is the culture of sailors, and the loneliness of the open ocean merely the source for all the spine tingling tales told to younger generations from their "Scallywag" forefathers, tales to give the open ocean a bit of magic and mystery... What are your thoughts on strange happenings at sea? Reports from sailors and recorded documents to name a few...

They are finding new creatures and life forms in the world's oceans and seas all the time. The ocean can go from calm to a mighty storm very quick, so that adds to the mystery and supernatural tales related to it.
Unidentified Submerged Objects (USO) have been seen by many experienced navy officers and enlisted personnel. Again, the ocean is vast and it is possible to hide a lot in its waters. I don't think the sailors of yore were that lonely on voyages, as they were constantly busy. There was no time to think of being lonely, as the maintenance was constant on the older ships back then. They probably did see a lot of strange sights, and while some of them could be considered tall tales, many may have originated from true events close to what is told. |
