On March 9, 1933, the U.S. Constitution was nullified when President Franklin D Roosevelt declared a national emergency.
The emergency he was referring to was effectively a shortage of gold and Congress agreed to his wish by allowing him to declare a national emergency effectively suspending the Constitution. Under the emergency power rules, the president has an almost free hand to control the country including the unconstitutional abilities to seize property, deploy military forces without congressional approval, bring in martial law, restrict travel and censor all communications. Until the president declares the national emergency over, the rules remain in force and the Constitution remains suspended. Roosevelt never declared the emergency over. Neither did any of his successors, realising that by living in a state of emergency their office has a greater ability to govern. In 1973, Senate Report 92549 stated: "Since 1933 the United States has been in a state of declared national emergency. A majority of the people of the Unite States have lived all their lives under emergency rule." Since Roosevelt's declaration, Presidents Truman, Nixon and George W Bush have all added further declarations that need to be annulled by a U.S. President for the Constitution to have full effect again.

FDR did outlaw the ownership of gold, which is unconstitutional.
He did declare a bank holiday and ordered the banks shut down for several days to stop people from panicking. He did create the FDIC, which does insure the savings accounts even now. I am still looking for where he suspended the Constitution. An emergency declaration does not necessarily suspend the Constitution. |

The Constitution is nothing more than a sheet of paper. It doesn't grant you anything or take anything away from you. Your "rights" are not, and never, guaranteed. It is a joke.
