Area 51 Thread

Area 51 is the name for a segment of land in the Nevaa Test Site. In side of Area 51 there is the 'Air Force Flight Test Center Detachment 3' which is the official name of the Groom Lake (Area 51) base.

Here some little facts that may intrest you.

- The workers enter the facility by 2 means, Air and Bus.
- - Air is done by a 737-200 which is run by EG&G. The plain is painted white with a red stripe down it and the collection of planes are known as Janet Airlines.
- - The bus is a white bus that has no regard for speed limits and travels from the local town of Alamo to the Base.
- The security around the base is also thought to be run by EG&G and if you spot them they are called Camo Dudes because of their camoflauge and big white SUV's.

Thats probably the basics of Area 51.

Thanks for all the interesting trivia. Why is it called area 51 and not by another number?

I'm guessing it has something to do with the 50 states in the US where this area is counted separately sort of. 51st state kinda.

A bit more info:

The base's primary purpose is to support development and testing of experimental aircraft (why the large military airfield in the middle) and weapons systems.
Photography is prohibited and the use of deadly force is authorized.

A few of the other names for Area 51 include Dreamland, Watertown, the Ranch, Paradise Ranch, Skunkworks, and the Box.

Actually it is called Area 51 because the Nevada Test Site is split up into segments. Area 51 is just one of those segemnts

I knew it really existed but I would love to know what secrets they have there. I personally don`t think we know what our government is really up to.

The operations are probably under the Air Material and Logistics Command (it's been a while and I could of mixed the words up), while the base itself is under Nellis AFB, which falls under Air Combat Command.
