WASHINGTON, Mar. 4, 2009 (Reuters) — Senate Democrats moved on Wednesday to wrap up a massive $410 billion spending bill covering most government operations in 2009, setting up a vote that is likely on Friday.
Several attempts by Republicans to cut about $20 billion from the measure, essentially freezing spending at 2008 levels, and strip out lawmakers' pet projects have failed in the Democratic-controlled Senate. The fight foreshadows an even bigger battle between Republicans and Democrats over President Barack Obama's proposed $3.55 trillion budget for fiscal 2010, which begins October 1. With a temporary spending law expiring on Friday, Congress must act on the current bill to prevent most government agencies from running out of money. But it will require 60 votes to end debate in the 100-seat Senate and set up a vote. READ MORE see below..... SOURCE ----> http://www.newsdaily.com/stories/tre...budget-senate/ |

Umm... We're going to need that 3.5 trillion dollar budget... that's how we're cutting the deficit. Obama actually put in figures for the wars, that's why the spending budget is already a trillion. We're just beginning to find out just how much money was spent by the Bush administration. Besides, 1 trillion alone goes toward the stimulus package, if I'm not mistaken.

I think the Republicans are the biggest blowhards when it comes to earmarks. I remember the Republican Congressman running for re-election in Louisiana whose TV commercials celebrated all his earmarks he brought to the area (a bridge over a railroad crossing, and other projects). He then ran commercials complaining about earmarks going to other Congressmen as wasteful spending.
It also seems that the Republicans are filibustering everything the Democrats are doing. A few years back, these same Republicans were going to do the nuclear option and get rid of it to get a few far right judges in the courts. I wonder if they can see the irony of this? |
