Monster Quest on Pterodactyls in Papua New Guinea

Rodan seems to be living in Papua New Guinea according to many witnesses, so Monster Quest went to investigate. I am usually a little skeptical of native claims, as they may call a large bird a monster and also are prone to misidentification. One thing that helps is a former World War II vet who had a good sighting of one of the creatures. Papua New Guinea is a very large island the size of Texas 100 miles north of Australia. Much of the land is still unexplored, so there is an opportunity for a large creature to exist there. Many new species are being found all the time in that part of the world.

The pterodactyls are said to be luminescent, and there is a video of two alleged pterodactyls at night. The images were scrutinized, and all that can be distinguished is two points of light. Campfires and flashlights from a distance were ruled out, but the lights do not reveal any detail. Many paleontologists reject the hypothesis that the pterodactyl survived after the event that wiped out dinosaurs 65 million years ago. They also question the ability of the pterodactyl to be luminescent. Since no newer fossils than 65 million years have been found, the point is well made. However, the natives have described the pterodactyl fairly exactly, and that is what is quite interesting.

Like other episodes, nothing is found. There is a possibility that the natives are seeing a large unknown bat or other creature, and no one is ruling out the possibility that the pterodactyl (or relative) could have survived in such a remote area.
