A few years ago when I was in China, I witnessed a 94 year old man cut the heart from a live snake and eat it. The old man had no teeth, he was sucking on it like it was hard candy.

Seriously, if this is real, it's a very strange oddity. A slip up of the DNA in a snake to produce a claw like that would show one of two things:
1) We know that snakes are closely related to lizards. And here is proof that they are more closely related than previously imagined. -or- 2) Lizards and snakes may occasionally breed? Consider this little guy:

Some pythons and most boas do have nub like legs. The tiny visible claws protrude out and are nestled close to their bellies near the anus. The males still use the claws but only during courtship and fighting, not to walk.
