Default Giant Lungless "Worm" Found Living on Land

Photo: Giant Lungless "Worm" Found Living on Land

The newfound species of amphibian seen above can survive on land with no nostrils, lungs, or legs, according to researchers who discovered the bizarre beast in Guyana.

The animal is the second known caecilian—or wormlike amphibian—found to live without lungs, researchers reported in a November 2009 study.

The wonders of nature. I wonder how this thing lives without air and I especially wonder, what kind of parasite it is (most parasites lokk unusual, same here) ^^ just kidding.

But again, it's really unbelievable. Practically all living organisms need oxygen to exists, except this creature. Very bizarre but interesting at the same time.

The worm still needs oxygen - and it appears to get it through it's skin rather than lungs. What's unusual though is that other animals in that past that have been found to do this are small in scale. They did find a frog without lungs as well and it was around 4.4 inches (11 centimeters) long, however this worm is a whopping 27.5 inches (70 centimeters) in comparison.

thats pretty amazing, it makes you think that creatures like this could be living on other planets like , surviving by intaking what little oxygen they need from whatever atmosphere they may have. just a thought...

Huh! I think you're right in a certain way. Never thought about the worm that way

No need for astronauts, we have space-worms
