Default Teens want money for chores

Why? They are a part of the household but yet when you ask them to mow the lawn or give the dog a bath etc. They want to be paid!! WE use to pay them now we just make them do it. The grumble and complain the whole time but they do it.lol

Well then maybe you should not call them chores. To me, chores imply work, which implies getting paid. Maybe instead of chores you should call them household responsibilities. How will kids learn about earning money and spending wisely if they are not taught within the home, by us?

I don't think it is right to pay them. If they want to earn, let them earn outside the house, working for other people. As to helping with housework, darn right, they are expected to help because they live here. Parents feed and clothe them, and therefore have the right to ask some help in return.

Pay them if they want to do the chores for money. It will teach them to appreciate the value of money. I can't even get my child to do the chores around the house even though I am offering her money.

Chores are chores and they should not be paid to do them. Your teens live there and contribute to dirtying the house, they should clean it and do other forms of maintenance. If they don't do anything around the house, don't make them dinner. Tell them they will have to pay for it, and they will start doing chores. My boys helped clean the house and even the bathrooms! I did by those Clorox wipes so the job was not bad.
Allowance is separate and should not be related to chores, but should be related to age. One should not give a ten year old the same as one would give a fifteen year old (unless the ten year old is a mature one and knows about money).
