As far as the "spirits following you around" .... yep, it happens, and I'm a prime example. I have a little girl that has followed me ever since as far back as I can remember. She does the same things, not matter where we are, like she is letting me know she is there.

She will play with the tablecloth, making it rise and drop just to get my attention, and if I ignore her, she throws things at me ... (which reminds me of the time I got pelted with about 5 packages of hamburger meat when I wouldn't acknowledge her).

Just because they follow you doesn't mean they are evil. Although, that happens alot too.
