Do you think there are residual ghosts or intelligent ghosts or both? I think that the majority of ghosts or spirits are residual and don't know that they are dead and don't know that we are there.

Definitely residual. I think the reason why they don't cross over is because they're not aware that they're dead. It could have been an unexpected death or they may still be disoriented. It's possible that ghosts are conscious of this fact but then they choose to stay because of guilt or unfinished business.

There are both types. The intelligent ones are those who wish to interact with people. They move things, whisper to your ear, touch you, basically scare the hell out of you. The residual ghosts are memories that seem to replay themselves over and over. They appear to be doing things they normally did when they were alive.

I agree with Panda. I think that there are both kinds.
I don't think that residual haunts are necessarily "ghosts". I think that those are just events that have firmly planted themselves in history. Whereas intelligent haunts are ghosts that either have unfinished business, aren't aware that they have died, just want to come visit to see how you're doing, or are malevolent spirits.
