Native Americans are allowed to use peyote for their ceremonies. I think arguments were made that they would have to allow prison inmates (whose rights are restricted anyway) to do any drug they wanted to for any religion. Fortunately, that argument lost, and some cultures can continue what they did for centuries.

Interestingly enough, this case came at a time when social conservatives rule the Court. I'm always amazed that they uphold the Constitution when it's in their domain. The Court's the last thing keeping democrasy alive in this country. We probably should bring more laws and stuff up to review for them.

It is also a freedom of religion case, and conservatives will uphold the more controversial cases in that matter. Conservatives also are more states rights oriented, and if laws infringe on what states usually are in control of, the Court will side with the states.

The ruling was well-accomplished, however, DMT'd TEA to connect with God? That's not faith. Real faith does not require the use of hallucinogens to be in touch with your creator.

Eh, that's a matter of existential semantics. The use of hallucinagenic drugs is always about the different perspective, so if you can "see" God when you're hallucinating, then why not seek that experience out instead of just keeping the one native perspective? As with most experiences of that magnitude, it will make you sharpen and clarify your thinking in your native perspective afterward, if you do some introspection.

Shamans and other spiritual healers use many mind altering type substances found in plants. Many authors have gone on these types of journeys, and report what they see is real and not hallucinated. I myself would be willing to go on such a spiritual journey to find out more about myself and the world around me.

I was once invited to try DMT on an experimental science venture, but refused. I once had an experience with allergies on sleeping pills, and thought that hell was near. All day long I smelled something burning, my eyes were on fire, everything was red, and the walls seem to be falling apart.

I would love to go on a hallucegenic trip sometime, although I'm quite hesitant to see the adverse counterparts.

Although I'd admit, while the idea of hallucinogens on church does not appeal to me, I would like to try out and see if Jesus will speak to me, on high.

If you ever decide to do something like that, go to a shaman in a local area that knows what he or she is doing. This is something to not take lightly, and they should tell you of any affects. Since you seem to be a Christian, this may not be the route for you to go. (It may challenge you to question your faith.)
