My grandfather was a Freemason and did not tell us anything about it. He wore a diamond ring with the symbol of the Freemasons.

Since my grandfather did not have any masonic trades associated with him, I believe he just asked to join. That was also a time when men joined fraternal type groups, and they did not care which ones as long as it got them out of the house for a night of drinking.

I would probably join the Scottish Rites part of the Freemasons. They are the direct descendants of the Knights Templar.
