Default What secrets do secret societies hold?

Many people here are interested in Secret Societies such as the Illuminati and the Freemasons. I am asking what many of our members of Truthed think the secret societies are trying to keep from us, if any.

I have read where the Freemasons are descended from the Knights Templar and know the truth about Jesus and his heirs. There are many books about this, and while no proof, it is an interesting theory.

I have also read that the Illuminati knows of the ancient knowledge of where we actually came from. The theories out there range from aliens to a super civilization.

Let's hear what the other persons out here have to say.

Freemasons not only came from the first trade unions of the Cathederal Stonemasons guilds, but much of the allegory used in the ceremonies has roots with ancient Egyptian holy ceremonies and a theology called Ma'at.

The recognition and prayer to GATOU (Great Architect of the Universe) who is represented by an eye over a pyramid whose capstone is missing is just the first testament to this.

Again, messrs Knight and Lomas have written regarding this 'The Hiram Key' and 'The Book of Hiram' are two such publications.

There are 3 main degrees to masonry - apprentice, fellow craft and master mason, this is within York rite, there are side degrees, such as Ark Mariners, Royal arch, and KT's...... In Scottish Rite Freemasonry (more popular in the US) the side degrees have more definition within the lodge.

A Freemason is supposed to be proud of his association, and the official line is that the only secrets a mason holds are those by means of recognition. IE how one mason identifies another. Those are by way of 'signs or tokens'......

My grandfather was a Freemason, and he wore a diamond ring with a symbol (I don't recall what symbol, but do remember my grandfather talking about the ring). I don't think the lower members of Freemasons know any of the secrets. The very high degrees probably are the guardians of said secrets.
I have heard the Freemasons are descended from such groups in Egypt, and that the Knights Templars were the forerunners of modern Freemasonry.
I will check out the books by the authors you mentioned, Tecnos. I have read books by Henry Lincoln (and the co-authors) Holy Blood, Holy Grail, and by Laurence Gardner.

I do not believe the Freemasons are associated with Satanism or devil worship as some of the fringe elements do.

That would be agreed upon the material I've read/heard, they're very much a Christian-based group. Those who believe they're Satanists may be confusing them with the Illuminati.

The Illuminati is supposed to be a Pagan society in some books. It also has been suggested that the Illuminati is a group of powerful people intent on control of world affairs and are not necessarily religiously oriented.

I do know the Knights Templar thought of Jesus as a man, and not the Son of God. It is wondered why they thought that, and if they did find any old scrolls about Jesus to back them up. If they did find the bloodline of Jesus, and what royal lineage had it, that would of been a great threat to the Catholic hierarchy. The people would of wanted a direct descendant of Jesus in charge of the Church, not a politically connected man made pope.

Fabio: Baphomet is a name of unestablished origin, but probably an Old French corruption and misspelling of the name Mahomet (Muhammad). It first appeared in the mid-thirteenth century in clear reference to Muhammad, but later appeared as a term for a pagan idol in trial transcripts of the Inquisition of the Knights Templar in the early 1300s.

However, in the 19th century the name came into popular English-speaking consciousness with the publication of various pseudo-history works that tried to link the Knights Templar with conspiracy theories elaborating on their suppression. The name Baphomet then became associated with a "Sabbatic Goat" image drawn by Eliphas Lévi.

The name Baphomet was used by a French King to take the lands and money of the Knights Templar, who had grown to powerful. I don't think the name meant anything at the time, but sounded nice and evil to further the King's goals.
