Default UFO Hunters and AUTEC

The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) was the subject of last night's rather interesting show. The military station is considered to be the Navy's version of Area 51. It is difficult to get near it by sea or approach the base by road without security making it known that they are watching you.

There were many witnesses interviewed on the very strange craft they have seen near the area. An underwater cable that goes to the very deep end of the ocean was also explored. The six thousand foot drop is way too deep for humans to dive, so that mystery was left unsolved. It is not an international cable, as they are quite thick. It may still be a communications cable, but where it goes is not known.

The area is near the Bermuda Triangle, an area which is quite known for aircraft instruments to act wildly. A man was interviewed who claimed to have traveled in time. I was quite interested in the story, but he only traveled 30 minutes into the future. I was hoping for a longer time period, but the case is still puzzling. Arriving 30 minutes sooner on a trip may have other explanations for it, such as the clocks not working in a timely manner, or other reasons.

The show also went off the deep end a bit with the usual wild theories of other authors. A French author claimed the area was a portal to other dimensions. His theory sounded more like an old "Outer Limits" episode than anything else. He did not have anything to back up his claims, which seems to be par for the course in these types of witnesses/theorists. While they are interesting points and theories, the idea should be to prove the craft sighted is not one of ours, or has been built with the technology that was not our own.

A remote viewer was interviewed on what he allegedly "viewed". I am also on the fence when it comes to remote viewing claims. I do know the army had a unit devoted to remote viewing, but that does not mean it was successful or they achieved any results with the method. Are these people actually seeing something in their minds, or is it imagination? I have read Jim Marrs' book on the subject, and will not dismiss the idea outright. It would be nice to get some backup evidence to the claims made.

The end of the hour was devoted to finding out if Atlantis was off of Cuba. The two people interviewed are devoted to Edgar Cayce. Cayce predicted that a death ray used by Atlantis would be discovered in 1958, and that China would convert to Christianity in 1968. He also predicted California would fall into the ocean in the late 1960s. He is best known for his psychic "readings", in which he went into a trance and threw the kitchen sink at people with his medical pronouncements. As one can see, I believe Cayce to be a charlatan, and a good one at that. This part of the show had me straining to not turn the channel.

I am one to think there is a possibility that a much older civilization once existed over ten thousand years ago. Some may put Atlantis in this boat, but that may not be the name they went by. The sea bottom near the coast of Cuba and other areas has what appears to be columns that appear to be man-made. It is quite possible they could still be natural and cut by the strong currents in the sea, but I am open to the possibility that they were made by an older civilization. Artifacts are needed and other evidence before I take the plunge and state it is man-made.

While I think the ideas presented are quite interesting, I also think they can be off-putting to some skeptics who want to see a program about the evidence of flying saucers being real. These tangents may be too tin foil hat like for them. I guess UFO nerds like me are entertained, but I also like more substance on the show, like the episode shown last week.

I must add that I did learn more about AUTEC, as I had not heard much about it before the show. I give the entertainment value an A, but the information and evidence gleaned a C for an overall B.
