I don't want to offer a best or worst of anything paranormal --
apart from reviews of books -- since this assumes that there is some standard for judging these things I can tell you the places where people _actually go_ expecting to see UFOs -- which doesn't say anything about the veracity of the UFOs themselves. I guess you could define a hot spot as anyplace you can buy a local UFO t-shirt. (That's the main aim of modern ufology.) |

Nevada Highway 375, Milepoint 29-1/2, near Rachel, Nevada
(looking toward Area 51). I would guess that this is the top spot, but of course I have no figures. "Top" doesn't mean there are hordes of watchers there: Maybe 2-5 cars parked in the side of the road on a peak summer night. .................................................. ....... Sedona, Arizona. A very scenic area that is supposedly a center of New Age energy. All sorts of vague UFO sightings but no nearby military base to peg them to. Because of the many recreation opportunities and colorful local culture, this is probably the best tourist destination of any of these sites. Plenty of things to buy. .................................................. ....... Roswell (sort of). Certainly has more tourists than all the other sites combined, but not many visitors are expecting to see UFOs there right now. Offers LOTS of t-shirts and every manner of alien trinket. |

Midway, New Mexico. This almost-invisible settlement about 5 miles
south of Roswell is the birthplace of the "Roswell Rods" -- Blurry, rapidly moving objects videotaped by local residents. .................................................. .................. Gulf Breeze, Florida. Supposedly a hot-spot for sightings, but I don't know if many people go there for that purpose. I'm sure you can find t-shirts. .................................................. ................... Mexico City. Supposedly a hot spot, but I know little. .................................................. ................... Marfa, Texas (south of). Home of the "Marfa Lights" reported for over a century. Like Rachel, there are supposed to be specific places on the highway you should watch from. .................................................. ................... Dulce, New Mexico. Supposed location of an underground alien base under the Archuletta Mesa, with corresponding UFO activity. This scenic area in Northern NM can easily be included in a tour of other New Mexico attractions. The town seems to be indifferent to the publicity, so there might not be any souvenirs. .................................................. ................... Devil's Tower, Wyoming. You could throw this in as the setting for the movie, "Close Encounters." .................................................. .................... Central England. The crop circle capital, along with corresponding UFO activity. I have no idea where to go exactly, but I'm sure you can find t-shirts. |

You hit the nail on the head with the comment about selling T-shirts and other items. Most are in it to make money, and books, DVDs, and those pop culture alien symbols are always to be sold at those places and UFO conventions. The promoters found another group willing to throw their money at them besides Trekkies.

I must say that I would love to go to New Mexico. I drove through the state and it is beautiful, so why not make a vacation of it? I would also go to Dulce and check to see if there is any signs of support for a large underground base. A base that has a rather large population needs supplies and other logistics to keep it running.
