I have promised to do more threads here on many different subjects. Here is one of them: Contactees.
I am on the fence about contactees. The people who claim to be in contact with alien beings from Alpha Centauri (or whatever system) are generally very nice and pleasant people. It is hard to ask them any really tough questions without seeming like they are being picked on. However, I do believe in what Carl Sagan states: Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. In the case of contactees, the evidence is always lacking. We do get many photographs and videos of lights and streaks in the sky. The contactees claim they are the aliens communicating and getting ready to land. We never see really good close-up photos and videos of the space ship and never an inside shot of one. There are also never any photographs of the aliens when they are contacted. The usual excuse is the aliens are camera shy. I would think a contactee would state they want to show people what is happening is real, and the aliens would be helpful in that matter. Contactees usually claim to know the whole truth about mankind and our history. That is usually a sign that the contactee is a bullshitter. Even SFC Clifford Stone (USA ret) claims that if a contactee or any one else claims to know the whole truth they are lying. Many of the contactees have sites and areas where one can purchase books and DVDs about their experiences. While I do not have a problem with people making money, that sign is always a dubious one. Many contactees have a good thing going for them and do not want it to dry up. Channelers are basically contactees except the aliens take over their bodies and communicate telepathically. Channelers will go into a trance and then speak in a strange voice. There is one channeler in particular who speaks in a funny voice and the crowd goes wild. When I saw the video, I started laughing so hard I nearly peed myself. Did those people (I want to use the term idiots, but I have made it a point to be nice) think he was for real? I would of been escorted out of there by the security. Channelers were very popular in the 1970s and 1980s during the New Age fad that was going on then. (I have no problem with New Age or its ideas, just the marketing and charlatans out there.) Omni magazine did an expose' of the channelers and the author had caught one practicing her voices. She is still popular and has books on her spirit she "channeled". Obviously people want to believe her, so the expose' did not hurt her. The thing is there is always a possibility that someone may be able to communicate telepathically with aliens (or beings in another dimension). There may be someone who minds his or her own business and aliens like to drop by to see how the common folk live. I do have an open mind, but I think the problem is we have been fooled so many times by these people. As nice as they are, charlatan is a nice word to really describe what they are. PS: I know this is a harsh thread on this subject and will be greeted with much scorn. However, I am one who wants the truth to be known. One of the truths is that those in the UFO community can be their own worse enemy by not fact checking and researching. |
