Erich Von Daniken is coming out with a new book shortly. He is quite maligned in the ancient history community because of his ideas. It did not help him when he did some ethically questionable acts in some of his earlier books. That was over thirty years ago and people do learn by their mistakes.
One of the reasons why I started to look into his theories again was the episode of UFO Hunters where they made a model of a glider made from the mold of an artifact that was over one thousand years old. This is the artifact that gets called the flying fish. When they tossed it up in the air, the glider did land with its nose up in the air. While that alone does not prove the ancient astronaut theory, it did show that there was knowledge of aerodynamics. While I am not going to say that aliens did build the pyramids, I do think there was possibly contact between the ancients and the aliens. The book "The Sirius Mystery" by Robert Temple opened up many intriguing ideas on ancient contact. My theory has changed a bit, but what if mankind had an ancient civilization that actually had contact with aliens? There is much evidence now to suggest multiple comets hitting the Earth over 12,000 years ago. The ice caps melted quickly causing mass destruction along the shore lines. This could of wiped them out, even if they did get out in time. With major cities and centers totally destroyed, the ancients had to start from scratch. The aliens they had contact with could have given them a jump start and put in clues that they visited us. When we decipher the clues, we then can figure out where they came from and initiate contact again. Does it sound far out? Yes, but there is much evidence both circumstantial and physical that suggests otherwise. |

A pseudoscientist who has been charged with fraud, embezzlement and tax invasion, he was also ordered by a court to undergo psychological examination.
His books have no scientific foundation.

His and others ideas of the ancient astronauts do need to be looked into. Yes, he has been unethical (I do not know about the tax charges, but governments have been known to use those to quiet people) but that does not mean we should throw the baby out with the bath water.
Even Colin Wilson agrees that his ideas merit much attention. |

You should read THE MORNING OF THE MAGICIANS. It was the catalyst for Von Daniken's ideas.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have started looking for books that are quite a bit older on the subject. They don't get into a lot of the New Age ideas that many other books get into.
While I do agree Herr Von Daniken made mistakes, I also maintain he has some excellent ideas and questions that need to be answered and looked into. Main stream science does not even look into anything that can be considered fringe, and that is a shame. |
