In 1960, just three years after the USSR had won the first heat of the space race by putting sputnik 1 into orbit, satellites were far from routine. When in February 1960, one of the stations that formed the Northern American Air Defense System picked up a radar echo of a new satellite of unknown origin, it sent panic waves throughout the US military.
Not only did the intelligence agencies have no idea that the USSR had launched a new satellite, nothing in their reports on Soviet space activity suggested they had the capacity to place an object into a polar orbit, or to launch something that was estimated to be in excess of 15 tons. The military scientists were horrified, since they were at least four years away from achieving polar orbits and getting payloads that large into space. The Soviets were also panicking. They had not launched the satellite and knew they were years away from being able to accomplish such a feat, they also knew that the Americans could not do it either. No one knew where it came from, but it was definitely there. Scientists in the US, USSR and other countries such as Sweden tracked the mystery object for three weeks before it disappeared without trace. The Black Night Satellite was a secret that could not be cracked, so no record of it was placed in the almanacs that record known satellite launches, and no further research was carried out. Some conspiracy theorists believe that the object was an alien spy satellite.

NASA and NORAD tracked everything in space, including all of the possible launches. Is there a link to this story so we can find out more?

Could be an alien satellite, who knows. But if aliens would indeed send a satellite to earth, which has to travel lightyears across the universe, it would be no surprise to me, if they would use something more efficient than radar. I don´t buy the story, that a super advanced alien satellite comes to earth and checks it with radar? A technology that even in our society becomes old very fast?
If I were the engineer of this satellite, I would be interested if there is any life on this planet, rather than check out if there are objects on it (you know, the basics of radar, checking movements of object and/or locate them). And radar can´t distinguish if a rock is moving around or a lifeform. |

The defense system picked up an echo, this does not mean that the satellite was using radar.

Kidflash,
I first came across the Black Knight in a book I read many years ago, Disneyland of the Gods. There is some information on the net, but your best bet is to google the subject and decide for yourself what information is credible. I am still skeptical on this subject for there is very little information on it.

I have some older books on order about UFOs. I will be reading them with an eye open for some of the cases that do pop up here and other sites. It is nice to read an original source and find out if there are references to the story. The problem with many things on the internet now is they are based on some old Urban Legends and are now reported as true happenings.
I have read in some books about alien satellites being discovered circling the Earth. I will check my books and try to find the references, as many of them are from Richard Hoagland and John Lear. Those names are dubious when it comes to any thing that can be confirmed. |
