Hi there, i think i asked the same question a while back before the actual film was released and i recall after a bit of research no body could find a trace of actual people the characters in the film where based on. i cant remember even if the area it was set existed.
I for one enjoyed the film as it mentioned the "alien astronaut theory" which i find quite fascinating and obviously showed the film makers had done there research on the abduction topic. but as for the "found footage" its all made up in the same way it is in paranormal activity just to try and make it more realistic.

I read somewhere the makers said the film was inspired by true events not based on true events.
I think its a mishmash of several alleged abduction cases put together.
