[HOAX] Cameras and Mics In Digital Convertor Boxes

"I have a friend who is kind of a conspiracy theorist. He was trying to convince me that the many of the digital TV convert boxes that our coming out have microphones and cameras built into them. Knowing a bit about electronics I bought one of these devices opened it up fully intending on proving him wrong. "The video you are looking for has been ruled as a hoax. Picture speaks for itself.

These boxes are not connected to the net, so there would have to be on-board storage and/or transmit circuitry, both of which would be easily identifiable. How about high-res still photos of the cam/mic connections? No high res = fake

Looks like this video was proven a hoax which does not mean it isn't happening.

It was a pretty good hoax to be honest. They are kind of pushing these converter boxes on us and even giving away coupons to make them cost only about 20 bucks. With..what was it.. i think 300,000 cellphones thrown away each day, there are a lot of wasted cameras and microphones. I can see how you could get one to believe this. Also the camera in the picture looks almost exactly like the one in my old samsung phone. What happened to the video?
